Working Together

Why therapy?

In recent years, society has made significant strides in reducing the stigma around going to therapy. Rightly so, taking care of our mental health (mind) is just as important as taking care of our physical health (body).

Therapy helps you work with a professional to curiously explore your concerns and establish goals for growth and improvement. You can talk about anything that is on your mind and for some of you, it’s the one time slot you really prioritise yourself.

Biljana Celeska Psychologist Melbourne

Therapy isn’t just sitting in a chair and talking or listening. It is a collaborative process, where we, the client and psychologist, develop a relationship, and together curiously explore your concerns and establish goals for therapy.

In therapy, you can talk about anything that is on your mind. There is no wrong answer, and you can be as open and honest as you feel comfortable with. We can often feel uncertain, embarrassed, or even a little fearful to start therapy, but you aren’t alone with those feelings, and I am here to provide support and validate your feelings.

My hope is that you gain benefit from therapy and feel supported during our sessions. Together we can decide whether you would benefit from working through an acute issue through short-medium term therapy, or, for lasting impact on personal growth and development, deeper psychological exploration is encouraged through longer-term therapy.

What can you expect from the initial session?

1. We can start with a brief phone conversation to understand what type of support you need, and assess if we are a good fit for working together. We can then schedule an initial Telehealth appointment, which is typically 50 minutes in duration.

2. In the first session, I will actively listen to your concerns to understand you and your situation. I will ask questions about your childhood and other events that have occurred across your life, assess your current mental health state and functioning to help me get to know you on a deeper level, and identify potential areas that may need to be addressed.

3.    In the next few sessions, I will discuss some different approaches to therapy based on your goals and needs. With your consent, we can decide on what approach best suits you, and then we can set goals together.
Do you want to learn healthier ways to manage your stress and emotions? Do you want to learn assertive ways to express yourself? You might want to change unhelpful patterns that keep you feeling stuck.
We will schedule future appointments, and in between sessions (to continue “doing the work”), I might assign tasks to do.
